Magnetic Reed Switch Sensor Module – Frequently Asked Questions
A Reed Switch Sensor Module detects magnetic fields using a reed switch that closes or opens the circuit. It outputs a digital signal (0 or 1) based on the presence of a magnet.
Connect the sensor’s OUT pin to a digital input pin of an Arduino. When a magnet is near the reed switch, the output becomes LOW (0); otherwise, it remains HIGH (1).
The module operates with a supply voltage between 3.3V and 5V, making it compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems.
It provides a digital output:
- LOW (0) when a magnetic field is present
- HIGH (1) when no field is present
Common uses include:
• Door/window sensors
• Alarm and security systems
• Smart appliances
• Liquid/gas/electricity meters
• Robotics and automation projects
This sensor is not weatherproof by default. For outdoor applications, use a waterproof enclosure for protection.
Connect power (3.3V–5V) and monitor the output. Bring a magnet close to the sensor and observe the onboard output LED or measure voltage changes at the output pin.
Some modules have an onboard potentiometer to fine-tune sensitivity. If available, rotate it gently to change magnetic field detection response.
The PCB measures 31.1mm x 14.5mm, allowing it to fit easily into compact or embedded systems.
